Alex Heaney | Owner/Mechanic
Alex has been with Spoken since 2015. An avid cyclist for the past 10 years, he enjoys being active and is out riding most mornings at 5am, cycling around 500km a week. “I get bored easily and love being out in the outdoors in all types of weather”, he says. A highlight was riding the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge this year with some customers. “I helped someone do an 11min PB after getting cramp halfway. That was a good day!” Alex’s bucket list includes riding the French Alps. “I’m a climber!”
Favourite ride: “Saturday morning bunches, and training figure 8 loops around Maungakawa.”
A Cambridge local, Sam was one of the very first customers to visit Spoken. He told Blair he’d be back to work for him one day, and here he is! Still at High School, Sam is already an experienced international cycling competitor, having raced in Tasmania and Canada and with plans to go to the Oceania Road Championships and the Junior World Champs in Austria. Sam trains extensively, riding 400-500km a week plus gym work.
Favourite ride: “The Saturday morning ‘bunchies’. They’re social, always fun, and you have once-a-week riders cycling next to world champions.”
